My house has “special status” for co ops, study abroad, etc but you have to have a legitimate reason (basically you have to be out of town). And there’d be no way for us to put girls on it to avoid their GPA counting. The thinking is if we had a voluntary inactive status, a majority of the chapter would be on it but would still be eating at the house, going to date parties, etc because it’s just too hard to keep track of who’s paying for what with 400 members. Although all chapters of my sorority do the same so I’m sure there’s a benefit for smaller chapters as well.
