Because sororities are different at different schools? The PNM pool is different, the campus culture is different, the local alumni are different, and these are just some of the factors that lead to chapters being different. That's why many sororities don't let you automatically affiliate when you transfer, because you might not vibe with the women in the chapter at your new school. No one sorority or group of sororities "rules" the south. Sororities have strong and weak chapters everywhere, including where they "rule." Prime example: ADPi. You say they "rule the south" but they're not considered "top" at Ole Miss or UTK. Even in states that have a stronghold for specific sororities have schools where they're top, middle, and bottom, so you can't really say a chapter like Phi Mu for example is "best" in all of Mississippi. KD for example is not terrible everywhere other than the south. Two posts above here list like 10 schools in the north where they're top tier: UMD, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Penn State, St. Louis University, random ass schools like Franklin and Marshall. Pi Phi, Kappa, and DG are the same way. They all have strong chapters some places, "weak" chapters other places, and average chapters different places. All are still official members of their orgs, and a Kappa from a top tier chapter is no more a member than a Kappa from a bottom tier chapter. Even then, what makes a sorority "terrible"? Not getting the hottest girls? Not partying with the hottest frats? If everyone gets a close sisterhood, has fun, and raises money for philanthropy, who cares?
