Subject:
is it really worth it to join a sorority?

Poster Message:
Hey y'all, I have a dilemma and I wish you could help me by giving me your opinions (be honest with me please): Next fall I will be a freshman at UA and I really wanted to go through rush and end up in a sorority. The reason I want to join a sorority is because my family lives in another country and I want to have a family here, I want to have a real bond with my sisters, feel loved and be able to love/support them as well. I am not from Alabama, not even American and I am not having a single problem with getting recs. Recently, I got a very small scholarship from an organization that requires me to be unable to attend the 2 first days of recruitment or I will be removed from the scholarship list. Also I am planning on studying abroad for a semester or a summer and to be honest I don't think I can afford both at the same time. Finally, one of my closest friends opened up to me recently about her sorority and told me that greek life at UA wasn't what she expected and that she wasn't totally happy in her sorority. She also told me it requires a lot of social and economical commitment and that there are more fake girls than kind, down to earth girls. In brief, Greek Life is ok (nothing wrong with it) but it is not that great like many people think it is. This left me thinking... Is it really worth it to join a sorority? I am really interested, but also scared It will dissappoint me or that I won't like it after a while. Thank you for taking your time and reading this!
