Could be to wait until sophomore year to rush to save up money and to get to know different girls in several sororities. That way you'll have a better idea of which house is best suited for you, and then you can make a decision as to whether or not to join one. A lot of old row houses have members from the middle class. I know of one girl who doesn't meet a stranger and rushed her sophomore year to become an alpha chi. She came from a middle class family from vestavia and loves her sorority. Personality counts for a lot too! Really the bottom line is that if you want to be involved badly enough, you'll find a way to make it work. Plus an invitation to the top houses is not exactly easy to come by, so if you're lucky enough to be chosen - go for it!
