That hazing example you just said about the washer machine is the biggest most used hazing myth. When everyone accuses a sorority of hazing, that's the one they use. Why does everyone think 30 girls dropped from Phi Mu's pledge class? Besides Greek rank and girls gossiping (and exaggerating probably) we literally have NO idea.
