Your impression is correct. Ole Miss sororities are WAY more difficult to get into, partly because there are fewer sororities at Ole Miss. Those sororities also perfer recs from their own chapter alumnae. Most Alabama chapters are OK with recs from alumnae of any of their chapters. Remember that Tuscaloosa is a bigger town and close to Birmingham, which has much better shopping options than Oxford or even Memphis.
