Yes, they do. A bunch of my family went to a prominent prep school in the northeast. Not saying names, but it's one everyone would recognize. My first day at rush, DG creepily questioned me/knew it all. They had done a background check/went to school with my family. I ranked them almost last after that. Yet I got called back. And again. Until final round when I shook them. And then I reported them to panhel. My other friend is really wealthy but not a sorority girl. Got cut from every house EXCEPT DG and AZD. Obviously she didn't join. But if you get cut bc of your money... Would you have wanted to be there anyway?
