for sorority rush. this may be controversial, so thumbs down it all you want, but i'm going to be really blunt with you as someone who has been in greek life for a bit of time, and i'm going to tell you what people aren't. the advice to be yourself is crappy. you wouldn't show up in sweatpants to a job interview, even if that's your true self. there's certain things to avoid that you might not know about. for sororities, when you're in the final rounds, some of the questions you might be tempted to ask could get you cut from even lower tier houses. I would avoid asking about the cost of the sorority, the time commitment, or any questions that show you might be on the fence about joining or not be able to afford it. those are the kinds of things that they will use to justify cutting you. some people won't agree with me, but it is what it is. don't reveal that you might not live in, or that you find the dues too expensive, or that you are planning to study abroad and want to know if you can be inactive during that semester, or that you are uncertain about a certain aspect of the chapter, if you really want to get into the highest ranked house you can possible get into. if you do ask honest questions, however, you will probably get into a house that is a slightly "better fit" for you. but that's how people end up in "lower ranked" houses than they believe they deserve. the whole thing is a game, and you have to play it. if you don't, you'll end up in the lower middle or the bottom, and you'll find yourself being turned down at parties at the door while the kappa girls behind you can walk right in. they did not "trust the process" and just end up in core four, they knew how to work the system. tridelt doesn't actually look for low-key girls who aren't the sorority type. theta doesn't look for real "hipsters", they look for millionaires. it's all a marketing scheme, and it's a scam to weed out the girls who know nothing about rush going in and who have no connections. so if you want my two cents about finding the "right fit", no house is actually a stressfree place to be except for phi mu, and many of those girls drop too because they realize that they didn't find the friends they wanted and they got no social benefits. whatever house you are in, there will be drama, fake friends, expensive dues, and you will not entirely fit in, so if you ask me, don't be yourself. the system is rigged, it's run by an algorithm, and the people who know the tricks get what they want, and those who "are themselves" do not. wear designer clothes if you can, act like you want to be on the e-board of the sorority, act fake, and try to get as many houses back as you can each round. you will find a group of close girls no matter what house you end up in, even if it's "not the right fit". you and your close friends will probably end up dropping your junior year if you are in a bottom house
