To the person above: I think that the original comment really only conveys some of the reasons people join top tier frats and “core 4” sororities. Some people may only be looking for status, but most of the people who join these houses are also looking for people who they have things in common with, and who they can easily get along and mesh with. Oftentimes that might mean having similar backgrounds (schools and culture which realistically can mean money and status) but also people who they can get along with. Due to the social “status” of people in the top tier frats/sororitys, they are usually very sociable people (some exceptions to that), and can actually hold conversations during recruitment that make people want to join their houses.
