Depends on where you are from and how classes are weighted. Some school districts in more demanding, academically, areas only give 0.5 extra for AP courses and 0.0 extra for honors classes, where students are encouraged to take a bunch of those, and all classes are actually harder, so there are actually some places where a 3.5 is better than like a 4.7. Hopefully admissions will continue to operate where they have the manpower and resources to analyze all those factors in considering admissions for students rather than just blindly taking a higher gpa. Honestly, that’s why things like the SAT are important bc things just aren’t standardized throughout the country or even this geographical region, so, it’s important to take a full account of the students individually, their entire resume, and their schools/districts. Sadly, USC may eventually become too big for admissions to continue to operate this way. That said, even with all those things taken into consideration, anything below a 3.0 is gonna be tough unless you LITERALLY did take ALL the AP courses at one of those schools that doesn’t give extra (or as much), and the rest of your resume is awesome. TLDR with usc admissions, it’s all still somewhat subjective, and that’s a good thing. I think glo’s are still somewhat objective with what gpas they will accept but I think you’re ok with a 3.2 to get into most.
