If they really regretted it that much they'd drop, and both AXO and XO have no problem maintaining chapter total, so I really don't think that's the case. There are probably girls that wanted the "top tier" house for shallow reasons but after getting involved realized that both of those chapters have really great sisterhoods and they did find a fit and make their best friends. There's that whole trite greek life quote about how you can't understand from the outside and can't explain from the inside and it's like that in each individual house too.
