I will be starting school in the fall and I am thinking of joining Greek Life. I come from a large family that has always allowed me to be fairly independent with my decisions. However, my parents and a few of my older siblings, have expressed their disapproval of joining a Greek organization. They are mostly concerned about the alcohol abuse and hazing issues that have proven deadly to some young pledges over the past years across the country. They also told me that my own independence and individuality will be constrained within the unit of the Greek chapter that I join.$9 I'm just looking for some open and honest responses from current and former Greeks so I can make a good decision for myself. I desperately want to keep my individualism and independence.
