<strong>Subject:</strong><br />The “top tier” thing<br /><br /> Poster Message:
Borrowed from UGA... This whole "tier" thing is irrelevant. I've been visiting this site off and on for a few months now and all this ABC is better than XYZ is just dumb. I don't think what undergrads grasp is that being part of a chapter is not a 4 year experience. This is a lifetime experience (or at least what you will agree to in you respective vow upon initiation). Freshmen are looking for a place to belong; where they are accepted, befriended, educated, nurtured and transformed. Our sororities offer the opportunity to develop leadership, inter-personable, civic, and life/soft skills while being part of a values based social organization. You develop and hone these skills before going into the workplace and life. All of the chapters at UWG are great and they are great because they provide it's members what they are looking for in terms of that sense of belonging, trust and love in a social setting. You can be yourself and be accepted for who you are, make mistakes, learn and be OK. The sad truth is that for many undergrads, this is a 4 year experience. You may keep up with your friends or members of your pledge class, but most of you will not be involved post-college. Life gets in the way...work, family, kids, etc. A small few of you will continue your involvement with alumni/alumnae chapters wherever you reside. Even fewer will get involved with chapters on an alumni board or house corporation and fewer at the national level. Forget about the tiers, focus on what makes us empowered women, embrace sisterly love, recognize that the differences and diversity of the chapters make us better. Enjoy the time life you have now and don’t worry about the stuff that doesn’t matter.
