Later Rush - YES!

Poster Message:
As a Mom who watched her daughter struggle with the recruitment process, I think it would benefit PNMs and sororities to defer rush until second semester. Getting acclimated to college life is a challenge without the whirlwind rush process tossed into the mix. I think the reasons for delaying recruitment are many, including giving sororities the chance to work together and meet to coordinate rush activities and themes, etc. after they've returned to school in the fall. This idea seems like a huge win-win to me, and I hope that somehow it will be considered by people in authority that can actually make the change. Just try it on a trial basis for a couple of years. My daughter felt pressure to rush as a freshman (I don't know why), and now is in a sorority she likes but doesn't love. The money and stress wouldn't be an issue if she were sincerely happy, but she's not. Again, letting young women learn the lay of the college landscape before rushing sounds like a grand idea.
