It's a chapter decision. One member is one voice among many. That's how sororities operate. We don't all get our very own way all the time do we? And a computer is not doing all the dropping, the sororities are, the computer is just a tool. The exact same process used to be done manually with index cards. The process is the same no matter if it's automated or done by hand. You are correct that it's not a mutual decision because the sororities are the ones making the decisions about who to choose as their members and they are in the driver's seat. It doesn't matter how bad a pnm wants a house, it's up to the sorority, as a chapter, to rank her highly enough to get to come back. The pnm's choices matter during their ranking after pref. That's when the decision is actually mutual and that's how the bid process is designed. Sorority recruitment has never been an open sign up sheet where you just pick your house. Ever. There are lots of organizations where you can do that. This is often the first taste of not getting their own way that new college students face. It's tough to have to grow up and face that finally.
