from another thread... Snap bids can only be extended if a house does not make quota. Quota is roughly the number of PNM’s invited to 1+ Pref party divided by the number of houses on campus. To explain it simply, if quota is 100 and a sorority only gets 98 new members during bid matching, then they can “snap” up 2 more new members to reach quota. Snap bids can ONLY go out between bid matching & bid opening. Once bids are open & bid day starts, it’s too late to snap. They are not announced publicly, not even to a chapter's general membership. A chapter's recruitment chair and a few other people make the decisions on who to snap and don't share the information. Panhellenic also knows but they don't announce it either. The only way to know is if you know someone personally who was dropped and then gets a bid. The pnm shows up to bid day with everyone else. PNM’s should not consider snap bids a rush strategy. This works out for very few girls. It is not something to count on! Your best chance of going Greek is always the chapters still inviting you back. If you really want to learn about RFM, snaps, quota additions, and continuous open bidding then I suggest you check out greekchat. The sorority recruitment subthread has great explanations of the process.
