It's mostly about sororities being able to get a first impression of you. Like other people said, we've done out homework and unless you don't know anyone in the chapter and didn't get a rec, the sorority already should know a little bit about you. That first impression is really important though especially if you don't have connection or didn't get a rec. Sororities are looking for initial problems with PNMs (no rec, awkward conversation, poorly dressed, major character flaws etc...) so that they can make those first cuts. If you can stand out and really impress a sorority during round 1, that's great, but ultimately as long as you have recs and don't mess up badly, you shouldn't get cut from too many houses. Keep the conversation light and friendly, talk about things that make you stand out and ask the girl friendly questions about sorority/college life. You're probably not going to leave round 1 knowing where you want to end up and that's okay.
