If you're in a quantitative/scientifically rigorous subject my guess is that the average UofT student's marks would be materially higher if they studied at Queens. Go to reddit and look up the fail rate for some of UofT's first year math/science courses, there's plenty of horror stories here that I doubt Queens has. I'd choose to go to UofT if I found that the reputation of UofT in my field of choice is materially better than that of Queens, enough so that it would compensate me for any GPA hit I may take (I doubt this standard is met). On the social side I think UofT is fine. If you live in res as a first year you will have no problem, likewise if you join greeklife. OFC it isn't a party school, you will need to apply yourself if you want to do well and you probably can't go out every weekend (although plenty of students don't do this, to the detriment of their academics). As for your question of "do people genuinely love uoft", I would guess that not a single person I know feels that they "love" this school. In my experience, on an institutional level, UofT does not care about the average undergraduate student enough to elicit that feeling. The average student's relationship to UofT is probably comparable to the average high schooler's relationship to the College Board.
