Here’s the thing: Panhel sororities don’t care. We have Panhellenic backing. We have huge organizations behind us that provide us with things such as a HOUSE, trips for our executive leaders to conferences in America (can’t say the same for the recent nonpanhel “national” conference), and support from women all hundreds of North American chapters. We have real recognition. Any person from the seven organizations can go to to any other Panhellenic sorority and they’ll all know who we are. Will they be able to keep up with the dozens of random local sororities that get created every year? Probably not. If you guys want to create sororities at different universities that don’t have Panhellenic sororities, go ahead. We also recognize that every woman should have the opportunity to be involved in a group of girls with the same values. The only reason I see the need for girls to get involved in non-panhel sororities is due to financial reasons. Dues in non-panhel sororities are 20-50% less than Panhellenic sororities. Your guys’s regular recruitment is our informal recruitment. But that also means that you guys get significantly less out of it. But I guess you get what you paid for. Here’s my suggestion: if it really bothers you that much, make a non-Panhellenic group. Like the non-panhel version of panhel. It’ll be easier for you, it’ll be easier for your members, and you’ll finally actually be a part of a Greek community that’s your own. You can even have a formal recruitment and experience real sorority life. Trust me- a lot of you are missing out on the real aspects of sorority life.
