My suitemate is in one of those sororities and she only knew one active member who was a junior when she rushed. So while I would say that connections are always important, they aren't as necessary as other schools with more Greek "tradition." What's more important is how well your personality matches, which I think A&M sororities are great at having a little something for everyone. Like I mentioned earlier, my suitemate only knew one girl, but she was captain of her school sports team and debate team, she's pretty, she has great test scores and volunteer work, and even though her parents are both accountants, she never went to camp or private school or lived in Memorial, West U, Highland Park, etc.
