Those are new members who spent their first semester at A&M though. The NM average for Spring 2014 was 3.29, so that averages out to a 3.225 by the time they enter Sophmore year. Plus academically, Sophmores are held to a higher academic standard than freshmen. My sorority is "mid-tier" but we turned away girls from A&M who had 3.5s. Without giving too much info away, the transfers we get from Baylor, TCU, Sam Houston, etc. that make it past 2nd round usually have GPAs of 3.7+. Freshmen are one pool, and Sophmore are another pool. Within the Sophmore pool, you will usually have those who attended A&M Freshman year and have made friends/connections and transfers with 3.7+. That's your competition.
