Poster Name:Are you the OP?
Poster Message:
If so, jeez, you're giving up every damn chance you have to join a sorority! The houses that are giving you a chance are the ones who want YOU! If you're not the OP, COB happens when a house is below chapter total (a number that Panhellenic sets based roughly on about the average chapter size). So if after fall rush, ABC is at 280 and chapter total is 285 (just making up #'s), ABC can extend bids to up to 5 girls during the school year to get their numbers up. Unless a chapter is WAY below total (10++ below), they probably won't have any COB events but rather quietly and discretely extend bids to girls who are already close friends with actives. I can guarantee you the house you didn't want today will be one who is COBing. What your Rho Gam called with today was a "snap bid". If a house doesn't make quota during bid matching, they can extend bids to girls until a few hours before Bids are opened. If they snap up to quota, they are counted as making quota. After bid day, bids are extended via COB. Remember, that houses number the girls every single day so just because that house wasn't on your skit invitation list, didn't mean you were a "no" for them. If the computer system said they could invite between 450-500 girls to skit, they may send over a list with 700 girls on it in case too many girls didn't rank them a "1". The goal is for houses to have full parties so they typically are open to inviting back more than they can. Make sense?
