Not to pile on, but Fall formal rush as a freshman is your very best chance to join a sorority. You pretty much need a flawless freshman year to go through a sophomore (high GPA, lots of in-house friends, willingness to consider ALL chapters, etc). Here's the deal with spring rush (COB): 1. Most chapters don't do it 2. It's private and discreet. You will never know which houses do it and no house is under the obligation to invite you to anything. 3. Connections are KEY. My house (I graduated in May) did COB a few times when we were under total by a handful of girls, and every single bid went to girls we were already friends with, like the only non-"ABC" roomate in an apartment full of ABC's. We never held any COB events or even consulted the list the Panhellenic office keeps. I think this is common for all but 1-2 houses that are consistently under total.....and chances are those 1-2 houses are the one house where you still had an invitation.
