<strong>Subject:</strong><br />Actual Facts about COB<br /><br /> Poster Message:
Some actual facts for pnm's and all the new actives who don't seem to know any better: - COB is NOT a secondary open rush in the spring, it's just chapters offering bids. There aren't many openings in spring and it all depends on what Chapter Total is set at. - Chapter Total is the limit that panhellenic sets for chapters' memberships, and when a house falls below that number they can take new members to get back up to that number. - Any chapter can COB at any time if they are below Chapter Total. Nationals encourage their chapters to fill their spots to keep the memberships up and maintain chapter finances. If there had been openings in fall at any chapter they would have filled them last semester, so spring bids are not about that. - December graduations open up some spring spots, and so do spring internships and study abroad. It all depends on what's happening within the membership of a chapter. - Spring pc's are teeny tiny compared to regular fall pc's. - EVERY chapter goes below Total at some point for the various reasons sited and also inevitably lose a few members due to personal/family issues, financial hardship, grade struggles, or transferring out to a different school. That doesn't mean a chapter is in trouble or struggling. - It also doesn't mean a chapter needs to advertise for new members. Most chapters already know who they want to bid and have a waiting list so your best chance for a spring bid is to know chapter members and TELL THEM you are interested.
