Texas is a tough state for sororities to start up in. Pi Phi and Kappa started chapters at UT in 1902 and Theta and XO came a few years later. Pi Phi, Kappa, Theta, XO, DDD, and lesser extent ZTA all put chapters at the top Texas schools first so has been more difficult for other sororities to be as established and well known. Gamma Phi has had a long standing chapter at SMU where ZTA and ADPi both folded, and they have done a great job getting established at TCU. Girls from the Midwest and West Coast all think of Gamma Phi as a strong sorority, and TCU and SMU have girls from all over the US. KD had a chapter at UT and it folded and after many years it came back in the 1980s. KD did not go back into Texas until the 1980s and will have a hard time competing with the traditional Texas sororities. KD folded at Baylor just a few years ago. Alpha Phi is a very strong East Coast, Midwest, and West Coast sorority. Very strong in Arizona too. They have a long standing chapter at UT that has done better in the last few years.
