many of the sororities do fine for not working their philanthropy, etc. If you are someone who has other philanthropic interests, or extra-curricular commitments, this could become an issue. However, if you are someone who is not naturally inclined to do philanthropy, the extra motivation of not being fined or "in trouble" might help you to stay involved with your sorority. Some people just need that kind of structure, and thrive when held accountable.
