As you girls are going through rush next week, I wanted to give you a mom's view on this process. Yes, I pledged a sorority and it was a great experience for me. I wanted the same for my daughters who went to different colleges, pledged different houses and had different experiences. First of all, I don't mean to scare you, but be prepared. This rush is INTENSE. Legacies don't automatically get you in a house. You may be told that, but it simply isn't true. There are so many girls going through rush that apparently the sororities cannot accept all their legacies. Especially if you are NOT from Texas. Yes, I know people will comment on this, but y'all have to give girls from other states a fair chance. Of course you want friends from HS etc, but look elsewhere as well. I watched from the sidelines last year and it was truly messed up to see good girls passed up because they didn't have an "in" with a house. Obviously I am not going to change the entire rush system but just pointing out what I observed. PNMs- when you visit each house, see if you can hold a conversation with someone. Can you see yourself in that house- hanging out with those girls? Remember that these houses are putting their best foot forward. Warning signs are bad talking about other houses, girls, etc. you may be shocked at how many houses "dropped" you after the first couple of rounds. Try NOT to take it personally. At this point it is a numbers game. Don't lose hope. Open your eyes up to other options .
