That is not how it works AT ALL. Spouting ignorant assumptions doesn't do anybody any good. Facts: Every pnm attending a sorority's pref is on their ranked bid list somewhere. The chapters only make their bid lists AFTER pref and they even don't KNOW what Quota is at that point because Quota is not set until after pref when all the pnm's cards are turned in; chapters just rank their pnm's and turn it in. Who gets a bid at that point is determined by the bid matching process, not by a chapter discussion. In bid matching, the pnm's ranks of the sororities are given equal weight to the sorority's ranks of pnm's. This is different than in the other rounds and the odds are better for a pnm getting her first choice; not guaranteed, but the algorithm does favor the pnm's ranks in bid matching. Bid matching is done by a panhellenic algorithm. The algorithm starts at the top of a chapter's ranked bid list and tries to match with the pnm's who ranked that chapter #1. Pnm's who are ranked high enough to match with their #1 house before it hits quota will get that bid. If not, the algorithm then tries to match the pnm with their #2 house, and if they are high enough on the bid list to match with that house before it reaches quota then the pnm will get that bid. If they're not high enough to match with them either then they will get a bid to either house as a quota addition. This is how pnm's are guaranteed a bid if they rank both pref houses. A pnm who only has one pref house and puts them on her card is going to get that bid. If a pnm only ranks one of her two pref houses and is not high enough to match with them before they bid to quota then she is out of the process and will not get a bid. Decisions on sophomores are made by the chapters at every round. If you make it to pref you are on the bid list and have a shot at a bid. There are no drops after pref, only bid matching. With all that said, if you want a bid as a sophomore it helps to have friends in sorority chapters and to have a good reputation with others on campus because people talk. If chapter members know you and like you they will pull for you in recruitment. Go out there and make friends. \n\n\n\n\n
