For me, I went into freshman rush not having a clue about the process and feeling insecure. This was a handful of years ago (I am an alum now). I did ok through cuts but then for pref was distraught to only have one chapter left, and it was actually a chapter I had already dropped. (Sometimes when chapters historically are not as strong at recruitment, they can open their pref list to PNMs that already cut them and panhel matches PNMs who were dropped everywhere else to give PNMs a shot at a bid). I dropped out because I just did NOT see myself there. I spent the rest of spring semester and fall focused on making friends, school, other activities and just becoming more confident in who I was. Sophomore year, I knew some girls in most houses (though most of my closest freshman year friends didn't go greek). And I knew what to expect and how I wanted to present myself. I kept an open mind even though I was more familiar with each house. I ended up preffing Kappa and Gamma Phi. I ranked Gamma Phi first (I adored Kappa, too, and had lots of friends in that house...Gamma Phi just felt more like "me.") and got a bid there. I really hope you give it another shot and that it works out for you! You can also consider COB for the fall if any chapters are doing it!
