There are pros and cons to everything, but people worry too much about rushing as a soph. I went through as a freshman, and was dropped. It was really hard to see friends pledging and meeting new people. But in hindsight, I was really finding my footing freshman year---not joining a sorority let me form my own friend group and feel confident in myself, and evaluate what I really wanted from my college experience. I decided to try again as a soph. At that point, I had an established non greek friend group...and they stayed with me all four years. I went through and new a lot of girls in each house from classes and activities, which made a nice common ground. I was able to ignore stereotypes b/c I knew they didn't matter like they are promoted here on GR. I found my fit and there were a bunch of other sophomores in my pledge class. It was the best decision. I ended up making friends across all years, I still had a core group of non greek friends, and I made even more through my house. Don't worry!
