See the post below for pt. 1 If you include both housing and meals, most housing usually cost $7,000-$10,000 per year. Dorms and most Off-Campus places cost at least this much alone not even including all of the utilities, supplies, and food. It's a very underrated aspect of GL but it really does offer you an affordable place to live. -Philanthropies Say what you want about fraternity philanthropies, but they are truly good acts. Even if they don't end up raising the most money in the world, they are still donating to a great cause and even spreading awareness. I can guarantee that most people who rip on GL don't do any philanthropy work. - The memories you make can not be replicated anywhere else. I'm not saying you have to be in GL to have fun because it's not for everyone. But I can truly say that living with 20 of your best friends and doing endless things with all of your brothers is special. You can not imagine it unless you actually experience it. This is one of those intrinsic parts of GL that would deeply hurt the college experience if it were gone. Now I probably could think of more pros and cons but I think you get the point. GL is a great system of mostly great people. I feel like it gets unnecessary hate from people who either have never experienced it or people who single out individuals to represent an entire community. There are definitely some inexplicable actions that happen in GL and those individuals should always be punished accordingly. But one person does not represent everyone and all of the benefits GL brings thoroughly outshines the negatives. Now I know I sound like a generic frat kid who just wants to save GL. I get it. I understand the direction that GL is heading and I just wanted my voice to be heard. I truly believe that GL deserved to be more than just a scapegoat for all things bad in America and I hope that I can help change some people's opinions. I would invite every person with a negative connotation of GL to experience it first-hand in some capacity. If you don't like it then at least you gave it a shot. Also, if there are any pros or especially cons that you think I missed, feel free to comment on them and I'd love to discuss. I really hope that people view this post as more than just a biased kid wanting to make GL sound good. I am simply reminding people why GL exists and my personal opinions on the state of GL.
