Say there are 1200 girls going through on day 1. If ALL 1200 remain in the system following pref, quota is based on dividing that number evenly by how many sororities there are (13). That would mean quota (how many new members a house can take) is around 92. That's really high tho....typically it's like 50-70 quota. That's because usually something like 20-25% of girls who sign up drop out during the process....whether they never show up, get cut and drop, get sick and have to drop, decide greek life isn't for them, whatever. To your question, there is a spot for EVERYONE who is left after prep. It just might not be at their top house. Panhel has a methodology to maximize the odds that everyone ends somewhere. Truthfully, it's the houses' decision who makes it to pref. Then they rank everyone on the bid list. Then the "power" flips to the PNMs to rank their houses in order. Goal is to match girls' top choice with top bid list ranking. Hope that helps?
