Subject:
PSA: This year isn't special

Poster Message:
Every class thinks that their year is special/different/unique for rush and that as a result rankings will drastically change. In reality, they're almost entirely stagnant year over year. Seriously, alumni from the 1990s that come back homecoming week talk about how "Sammy, Castle, ZBT, St. A's" were the big frats on campus in their day, which is pretty much still true. Sammy just became Theos, Castle stayed Castle, "St. A's" changed their nickname to "Hall," and while ZBT definitely isn't up in T1 anymore, they pretty much were as OZ until like 2018. That's three plus decades of complete consistency vs a rush chair telling you that "this year is different." Rankings only ever actually shift for two reasons: (1) Administrative action like getting probation-ed last year or kicked off campus; and (2) Utterly losing rush, like beta apparently did the year before mine, Oz did my year, apes did last year, and (maybe) a certain group will do this year. But even then, Apes seems to have seemed to almost entirely recovered at this point and scandals that were supposed to upend everything (like a certain presentation) ended up doing nothing, so even that's not certain. That means in all likelihood (as much as certain frats want it to be different), none of these big changes are happening: - Fiji will not suddenly become a T2 - Owls will not be top of T2 - Delt is not falling to bottom of T2 - Hall will do okay, but won't go to T1 - Theos is not becoming a T2 frat (lol) All of these are pure freshmen delusions encouraged by publicity chairs on this website. I'm not necessarily telling you this to say that you should only care about rankings, but because a lot of people in my year made frat choices based on "potential," saying things like "yeah but they're having a great class this year, they'll be T2." Other upperclassmen can probably recall this being said about Owls, Sig Chi, and Fiji in particular every single year since 2019. The only "prediction" you should be basing your choice on at this point is if it looks like one fraternity is going to completely lose rush, and while word on the street is that one of them probably will, I won't call them out here. But besides that, I guarantee if you compare the perception of ranks from the beginning of this year to once everything settles post-bid day, they will be basically identical. Sororities are at least more honest about this. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
