A lot of kids at Penn, especially in Wharton and College Econ, treat college years as make it or break it, putting a hugeee premium on first job and first salary... all the data and well-known anecdotes shows us that this is myopia at best, since so many successful people went through an "exploration" phase in their 20s. Also, Penn's STEM courses are really fast paced and get MIT/Caltech level difficult in junior/senior year which probably also contributes to this.
