My logic behind the "having to win something" is that there aren't very many times when sororities go directly up against each other, house vs. house. Looks, involvement, etc are obviously important, but they're more of a subjective thing than anything else. I like numbers and statistics. Direct competitions such as U-Sing, Scandals, grades, return rates (which I don't think have been released), etc allows us to objectively compare houses as a whole. It eliminates bias. It says "this house put up its very best girls and was unable to win a single award or place in the show"
