<strong>Subject:</strong><br />good-bye sororities<br /><br /> Poster Message:
It is easy to predict that within the next ten or perhaps fifteen years, we will see the demise of social sororities.Sororities outlived their purpose which was for women to encourage and support other women hoping to pursue careers outside of the home, decades ago.Today, young women joining sororities are worse for it. In a society today that values diversity and despises elitism, sororities are an abject fail. In the last few decades, sororities began supporting particular philanthropic causes and organizations to redeem themselves and appear relevant within the college and local community. This attempt to appear to be a positive influence for good fails miserably because the young women who join the sororities really do not care about these causes and organizations and participate only because they are forced upon penalty of being fined or losing privileges. The perception that sororities are essential for getting ahead socially and in a career through networking really only works for men in fraternities. Unlike men, today's women are too cut-throat and competitive with each other to really bond in a sisterhood as evidenced by the comments on this website. Gentle women no longer dwell within the realm of a social sorority and with few exceptions, only "mean girls" inhabit the Houses. Sororities will not continue, for our culture and society will not tolerate their behavior for long. Sororities are no longer relevant; the large financial expense alone, is just not worth it.
