I think a lot of PNMs go into it thinking it won't be competitive because it's not a traditional Southern school or UT, and then end up being crushed. It's competitive and there are very distinct top and bottom tiers. Getting a bid from a Top 5 house without already having connections is difficult. Not impossible, but also not something you should expect. Rec letters don't matter as much as having girls in that sorority who are pulling for you. A rec letter will not get you a bid on its own. It could possibly make the difference between an invitation to the first invite-only round or not. Commenting on posts could hurt you if other sororities see you commenting on certain houses and assume you're not interested in the others.
