It’s difficult to get a bid to one of the top houses if you’re out of state and don’t have any connections. That doesn’t mean you won’t get a bid anywhere though! I would get recs for as many as you can, especially if you have an impressive resume. It won’t guarantee you a bid but if you don’t have any connections, a great rec can make the difference between getting an invite to round two or not.
