You’ve been sold a bill of goods. Human life is human life. Always has been, always will be. Sorry, the criterion of viability won’t cut it. Tell me your feelings toward the senile elderly person rendered incompetent by a stroke? The mentally impaired or the quadriplegic war veteran? I guess they’re not “viable” given they are incapable of an independent existence in your eyes. Are you a eugenicist? From the moment a law deprives a category of human being — the most innocent at that — of legal protection, the rule of law becomes threatened at its very foundations. And here’s something of which you may not be fully aware: the US Supreme Court is not the final arbiter of what is wrong and what isn’t.
