I am 100% for equal opportunity. I agree with the type of feminist movements that advocated for a women’s right to vote, divorce, equal opportunity...etc. So there is no need to put words in my mouth or lecture me on the type of feminism that was common when many sororities were founded. When I say modern feminism I am referring to the feminism of today. The feminism of today is really only “empowering” or positive to mostly white, liberal women and if you don’t agree 100% with their opinions you’re ostracized by them. It is clear that moderate, independent, conservative...etc women and their viewpoints are not welcome in the mainstream feminism of today. Maybe they’ll be tolerated if they sit down and shut up. This lack and disregard of dialogue is very frustrating. You can’t ostracize a group from a movement (because the movement won’t have open dialogue) then criticize that same group for not being feminist. It’s ridiculous and illogical. If you believe that the feminist movement of today is worth being apart of, then it is worth taking an objective look at. Taking an objective look and evaluating true and thoughtful criticism is the only way you better any movement or organization. I believe if we revaluated modern feminism it could be a fabulous resource for women that the movement isn’t currently reaching. Sadly, I don’t believe that will happen. If it does, that is a feminism I will gladly support and be apart of.
