The above are mostly correct. But will add COB is probably better for a PNM that is not well connected or has a lower GPA. During formal you may have had a great conversation, but unless the person will advocate for you it is not in your control. Some members are shy, won’t speak up or don’t have the influence to change what will happen. During COB events the members get to spend time with you. Your conversations hold more weight. In formal recruitment your resume holds more weight. Half the groups will be eligible for COB. And the chapters won’t be known until after formal recruitment. It is a way to let all the groups maintain an similar, close to average, number of TOTAL members. If a girl has been dropped by everyone please remind her of this. Formal recruitment invites are more resume focused. And to highly suggest COB where a sorority can get to know the person and not just the resume + 15 min worth of conversation.
