You won't get to know every girl during recruitment but here are some things that might help you compare houses. Spring recruitment ---- These houses did not participate: DDD, GPB, KAT, KKG, PBP (info straight off the OU grade website). If a house did recruit last spring, ask them why. Did they have several girls quit? (bad sign). Did they graduate 20 girls early (good sign). Grades ----- Most of the houses were above the panhellenic average. If a house is below, find out what the academic expectations are. These houses were below ---- the entire Alpha tier: AGD, AXO, APhi, AOII. Philanthropy ----- Is their philanthropy something you could support? Do they engage in it or just raise money for it? Is it something so big you feel like you can't make a difference or so small and unimportant that it doesn't matter? Try to choose something where you can make a difference. Diversity ----- Believe me, you will be happier in a house that gives you the more real world experience of knowing people from more than just the dominant Culture ----- You may never have another chance to have a close relationship with a girl so different culturally Take advantage of it. Happiness ---- Do the girls genuinely love their sisterhood? Do they do more than just say I just looooove my sisters? Can they tell you stories and examples of sisterhood? Who are their best friends? Do they smile when they're talking about their house?\n\n\n\n\nThings not to consider: Looks ----- Don't misunderstand. No one is trying to send you to the isle of misfits. Notice if the girls are well put together and have a smile on their faces, but after that, it's not important if they have 400 skinny blue-eyed blondes or not. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes so don't be shallow. And if you think the house is being shallow in their choices, evaluate that too. Physical house ----- The place you live for one year shouldn't figure too much in your decision. Some houses have sleeping porches, some have 5 girl rooms, some only have 2 girls per room, they're all different. All are beautiful, so look at more than just the house. Boys ------ Believe me, there are plenty of boys at OU and you are too good to think you need sorority letters to attract them. They're everywhere. So don't believe people who tell you that if you want to hang out with the "top fraternities" you need to be in one of these certain houses. Guys don't care and are attracted to whatever attracts them anyway. Looks, smarts, personalities, etc. Only the most troglodyte among them would need sorority letters to feel attracted to you. Anyway is that the kind of guy you want? Single honors ---- Don't join a house because they have the Miss Oklahoma Okra Queen of 2019. Don't join because they have the CAC Homecoming or College Bowl Chair. Those are honors/jobs that a single girl has earned. Any girl in any house can work hard and deserve any honor at OU. You don't have to be in a certain house to be successful.
