<strong>Subject:</strong><br />pnms and the sorting hat<br /><br /> Poster Message:
95% of the women going through rush will be happy and find a place in any of the 11 chapters on campus. Unlike some campuses OU does not have any weak sororities. And smart women want to keep it that way!!! (Notice I said women NOT girls? Yep, we are adults now and need to think like women). If you heard recruitment is a mutual selection process, that is an exaggeration. You are being sorted equally into 11 houses. The only real input a PNM has is their resume and, for some PNMs, their ranking of chapters after preference. You don't get to cut chapters. You rank them. If you have less than the max parties after each round, you were cut. All 11 sororities are required to make cuts. Very few PNMs have a full schedule after round 1. They forget to tell you that. It is very normal and part of how to get the PNMs sorted with the best chances of getting a bid at the end. The majority of you will end up going back to a chapter you ranked last on your list. AND IT IS OKAY!!! If you made an assumptions about that group after 20 minutes in their house, that is all you know and must use it for your first ranking. But keep an open mind. They have hundreds of women, that one or two you talked to doesn't represent the entire house. DO NOT SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT ANY HOUSE DURING RECRUITMENT, that may be the only house you have left, and then your pride is going to keep you from running home to a great sisterhood. (pretty sure this is how things went wrong for a lot of PNMs last year) Formal recruitment is a lot like getting sorted into houses at Hogwarts. Think about the great hall at Hogwarts. The tables were equally filled. The Hufflepuff table wasn't half empty. Why? Because all the 1st years got sorted by the sorting hat equally. And Harry may have had a little input when the sorting hat was on his head, but in the end he had to go where the sorting hat sent him. We can't all be Gryffindors. Gryffindor may have your favorite colors and people, but each house has to be equal. So even if you like Gryffindor best, and they like you, everyone can't be a Gryffindor. Some students that would have made great Gryffindor students have to go to Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Sorting is sometimes a little easier for those who truly wanted to be a Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. But even then things are up to that hat. In the end they are at Hogwarts, that is the best place to be. Everyone at Hogwarts is ultimately really happy in their house. Same applies to OU Sororities. It is the best place to be regardless of which sorority you are sorted into. You are at OU, that is the best place to be!
