hey guys I just wanted to let PNMs know what happened to me during formal recruitment last year. I was a freshman & was super excited for rush. I had good grades, was super involved in high school, the normal sorority type girl. However, 1200 girls went through rush last year & there were about 935 spots (avg pledge class size is 85, so 85x11=935). OU has very competitive greek life & I know this year about 100 more girls are going through rush, but still with the same amount of spots. I had Tri Delt, Chi O, Alpha Phi & 2+ the day before pref, but when I opened up my letter before pref night my heart absolutely dropped. I had one sorority left & it was the worst one on campus. I cried & immediately dropped out of rush & went home. It was a very heart-breaking experience because the OU Pan people will constantly say "trust the system." However a sisterhood is something you should be proud, not embarrassed of. I was so depressed & bitter about greek life for the semester. However I am here to say DO NOT do what I did & let rush ruin your life! I am happy & I love OU now! It is stupid to let a greek organization ruin college for you! OU has so much to offer & this experience taught me to widen my horizons & never settle for less. I was recruited by a house I LOVE during spring rush & I am so happy I didnt settle for a house I wasnt in love with. Take this to heart PNMs: 1) greek life does NOT define you 2) don't settle for less 3) if this happens to you, you are not alone!
