1.This week, PLAN AHEAD! Do your school work that is due next week, get ahead of your classes, study in advance. Time will be sacred during rush week, and you will need it to relax and rest. 2.Don’t listen to “tent talk.” Don’t listen to what Sally down in room 239 says. Don’t listen to what the XYZ in your chemistry class says will be the perfect place for you. Don’t listen to what Aunt Debbie says about her sorority. Don’t listen to your high school best friend, or your roommate, or even your mom. Form your own opinions about every single house. 3.Be prepared to lose your voice :) Rounds are LOUD, and there’s a ton of people in that room. Go ahead and buy cough drops, lemons, honey, tea, or whatever you normally use to soothe your sore throat. Don’t talk when you don’t have to and drink lots of water through out the days. 4.Prepare for cuts. They are hard and hurtful. There isn’t much more I can say about this. Just hope for the best, but expect and prepare for the absolute worst. Understand that cuts are all a part of a numbers game. There may be a heartbroken active in a house sobbing because she didn’t see you on their list for that round, and she was dying for you to be her little. 5.If/when you are cut, handle it with grace. Nothing is worse than seeing a girl flop down on the ground in the grove in her skit dress because a house cut her. It’s humiliating to her. Tears are 100% okay, you will see lots of them. If you feel that you can not contain your sadness, find the nearest bathroom and try to calm down. You may have a round that starts 30 minutes after you receive your invite list, and you don’t want them to see the tear streaks left in your make up. 6.Don’t fall in love with just one house. Pick a couple favorites. It makes the cuts a little bit easier when you see another one of your favorites on your invite list. 7.Pack accordingly. When I say this, I mean pack your ziplock baggie accordingly :) Bring lipstick, powder, oil blotting face sheets, dryer sheets for static-y hair, a mini hairbrush, deodorant, tissues, and band-aids. Don’t forget to shove a notepad and pencil in there as well. When you come out of a house and the doors are shut, scribble down a few notes about your experience in that house and maybe a ranking. For example: XYZ– talked to Haley(blonde with great skin and blue Kendra Scott necklace) about cheerleading in high school. really liked when they sang <insert song name>. their president spoke to me and they had tons of energy. 9. This helps you remember things about each house when it’s time to rank and they’ve started running together at the end of the day. 8.Read up on each house’s philanthropy if you have time this week. It really looks good when you are visiting that house on Philanthropy Day and you can talk about how you did volunteer work with that philanthropy during high school. 9.And lastly, if you are religious, pray. Pray for wisdom and guidance to make the right choices. Pray that you will show each house all of your fantastic qualities. Pray for strength as you go through a taxing and scary week. Pray for peace when you feel overwhelmed or stuck. Pray that He will lead you to the right house for you.
