Sororities are time consuming, but it's so worth it, in my opinion. After you pledge a sorority, you'll have chapter once a week for an hour. You'll also have some sort of new member meeting for an hour once a week. That's only 2 hours out of 168. These 2 hours are mandatory. Of course, there are swaps and formals and date parties, but these aren't required. You'll also have a new member retreat, which is typically mandatory. There are also your sorority's philanthropy events, which are mandatory. You'll probably have to sell tickets to these events, which is easy if they involve food or sports and you know a few boys. In the fall, your sorority will have to practice for Theta's philanthropy event "Theta Encore". It's insanely competitive and you'll likely have to practice a few times a week but it's a lot of fun. In the spring, you'll have rush practices once or twice a week. These can get a little annoying but they're still fun and you'll like hanging out with the girls in your sorority. All in all, there are a few required things that won't be very fun. But on the other hand there are so many fun events that come with being in a sorority. If you're worried that being in a sorority will effect your grades, it won't. My sorority keeps me accountable. I behave "better" when I go out. I have to keep my gpa up and I'm way better at time management. My sisters and I study together. I've even been tutored by an older girl in my sorority.
