Sadly this is true, but not for the actives! Alumni advisors are the worst at talking (gossiping) amongst themselves. Alumni advisors all know each other and are members of the Panhellenic alumni association. They regularly communicate with each other. If one sorority had a girl pegged as a favorite, the advisors will let other sororities know they want her. In other words, they will "claim" a girl as theirs. I see top girls get cut every year from mid tier houses because a top house will "claim" her. If the alumni are unsure of a girl the active members want, they will ask other alumni from other chapters what they think of a particular girl. Often comparing recs. There is an entire political underworld circulating behind the scenes! Totally unfair, but nothing anyone can do about it. It's not unheard of for two alumni from different chapters to compare bid lists to make sure they are not each bidding the same girls in order to maximize their lists in an effort to reach quota with the best girls possible.
