Here's the deal. As actives, our job over the summer is to get to know pnm's coming from out hometowns. When rush starts, we already know the girls from home, we have already scoped them out, and we have a good idea of whether or not they will fit in our house. These are the girls we will concentrate on. States like Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, etc are all well represented in our sororities. If there is nobody from your hometown already in our house, there will be nobody looking at you over the summer and getting to know you. Your application and résumé will likely end up in a pile for "other states". You may get cut even before anyone knows how awesome you are. This happen every year to great girls. It's why we stress networking! Did you get all your recs? Did any of them come from ole miss alumni? Do you know anyone who can introduce you around? All these things are important! That being said, there are several houses who pride themselves by taking girls from northern, and other non southern states. One of these houses will be sure to love you if you are a good fit for their house. Good luck!
