Like it or hate it but RFM has fundamentally changed recruitment. You'll find girls in all three of the houses you named whose resumes are equal to or better than some at the "top" houses. A girl from Ohio with no connections - even with with stellar grades and leadership positions - really has no chance at DDD, KD, Chi O, or DG against an instate girl whose has an active sister, cousin or friends from high school lobbying for her in the house (or a mother who goes to church with a recruitment advisor). With only so many invitations to give to out each round, deep cuts are necessary. Some very impressive PMNs are released from those houses to make room for what might otherwise seem like a less qualified legacy. In the old days, that girl would have been strung along and then just not given a bid. Now, they are released and given time to fall in love with another house that wants them. Is the process fair? It depends on who you ask. To be honest, it would probably be more honest to say instate or OOS houses instead of top or bottom. Right now there are some very sketch legacies in the top houses, and some first-rate girls in what people on GR ranks as bottom. One last thing - the only people who really care about ranks are freshman girls and old ladies. Guys really don't care one way or another.
