XO, DDD, AND KD - this is the Old Guard... think Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, George W. Bush. They have prospered, personally and politically, under the established system and do not appreciate anyone rocking the boat. They will go along with superficial talking points to play along with changing attitudes and fashions (I.e. talking (only) about minimizing the importance of legacies) but they are always looking out for their own interests and seeking to maintain “The Way Things Have Always Been.” Appearances and social mores are very important to them, and they are heavily swayed by moneyed outside forces (donors/lobbyists in politics, alum in Greek life) that quietly control many of their decisions. DG, Phi Mu, Pi Phi - these are like long-serving members of Congress (back in the day they would compare to Robert Byrd, Ted Kennedy, Storm Thurmond - today it’s more boring names like Dianne Feinstein, Chuck Grassley, Pat Leahy, though current Mississippians Wicker and Hyde-Smith almost fit the description) who have been around forever and have amassed the power that comes with seniority, but who will never achieve the greatest heights of accomplishment (they’ll never be President, or “top-tier”).
